Two public engagement sessions are scheduled for Tuesday, to discuss the new design of the Crystal Pool and Wellness Centre Replacement Project.
On Friday, it was announced the project is receiving a conditional $6-million dollar boost in federal gas tax funding.
The 47 year old centre on Quadra Avenue is being replaced with a new all ages and abilities recreation and wellness facility, that will also use energy efficient technology to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions by 33 percent.
The facility costs about $397 hourly to operate in its current format. The corresponding revenue is about $165 per hour.
Victoria Mayor Lisa Helps says the investment will have long-term positive impacts on the health and wellness of area residents.
The total project cost is $69.4 million.
The $6-million dollar contribution is conditional on the balance of the remaining funding being acquired within one year.
The city has already committed $10 million to the project, and is actively seeking further funding through federal-provincial infrastructure programs, as well as other private partners.
In its current form, the centre sees 400-thousand visits annually.
The public engagement sessions happen Tuesday February 27 from 3 to 5pm and from 6 to 8pm at Crystal Gardens on Douglas Street.
