Premier John Horgan has reacted to the news of Christy Clark's resignation as Leader of the Official Opposition and MLA for Kelowna West.
Horgan thanked Clark for her service to British Columbia, saying politicians take up the call of public service because they want to make this province a better place. Horgan says while they represented 2 different political parties, they are united in the belief that working together we can build a better future for BC and the people who call this place home.
Horgan adds as MLA and as Premier, Ms. Clark fought passionately for what she believed saying she will take that passion and energy to her next opportunity, and wished her well in her future endeavours.
And B-C Green Party Leader Andrew Weaver is thanking Clark for her years of service to the province. In a statement, Weaver says Clark has been a ``fierce advocate for British Columbia, here at home and around the world.''
Weaver says it was an honour to work with Clark on the development of policies protecting post-secondary students from sexualized violence on campus, noting Clark's ability to work across party lines has made students in B.C. safer.
Weaver's decision to agree to work with the New Democrats after the last election, giving the N-D-P a one-vote edge in the legislature, helped force Clark and the Liberals from power.
