With a proposal on the table for a new casino in Victoria, a new poll shows most Canadians don't want more gaming facilities.
An Angus Reid poll shows only one in 10 Canadians want expansion of gambling type businesses, instead favouring the status quo with a 60 per cent vote.
It also revealed that one in four Canadians say they have family member, close friend or themselves have a gambling problem.
According the Angus Reid, B.C. raised 2.1 billion in gambling related revenue in 2013-14, the fourth highest in the country.
With such high stakes, it’s no surprise that 71 per cent of people polled in B.C. felt it was a good idea to have government involvement. 43 per cent of the respondents across Canada are found to think government involvement in general is a good thing.
The B.C. Lottery Corporation is currently expanding the View Royal Casino and has a proposal on the table for a facility somewhere in Victoria.
