56 men and women in law enforcement have been honoured at BC's 35th annual Police Honours night.
Lieutenant Governor Judith Guichon and Solicitor General and Minister of Public Safety, Mike Morris presented the awards -- including to several officers from here on Vancouver Island.
Among the recipients of awards of Valour - the highest award for a police officer in B.C.:
Sgt. Paul Minkley and Cnst. David Buchanan of Nanaimo were honoured for putting themselves at substantial risk to enter a building to search for and apprehend and active shooter.
Cpl. Mitchell Fiddick and Cnst. Marc Julien from the West Shore who rescued an unresponsive, suicidal male from an exhaust-filled garage. Also West Shore's Cnst. Justin Floyd who saved a suicidal woman from jumping off a cliff.
Receiving awards for Meritorious service: Nanaimo's Cnst. Michael Gibson for rendering first aid to victims of a shooting.
And from Victoria -- Cnst Andre Almeida who helped evacuate residents threatened by a neighbouring house fire.
