A parole board hearing to consider notorious teen killer Kelly Ellard's request for escorted absences has resulted in a split decision.
Ellard is serving a life sentence for beating and drowning 14-year old Reena Virk near the Craigflower Bridge in 1997.
The now 34-year old Ellard recently gave birth, and has been granted permission to have her infant child live with her in prison. Ellard is applying for temporary escorted absences of twenty hours a month, telling the parole board she'd like to take her child for routine medical check-ups and to parenting programs.
Two parole board members ruled on the application this morning at Fraser Valley Institution in Abbotsford, saying they couldn't reach a unanimous decision. Another hearing will be scheduled for sometime within the next few weeks, with two new parole board members called in to review the application.
