There was a standoff in the Burnside-Gorge area overnight involving a woman who reportedly tried to steal a car from an auto dealership, then locked herself in the basement of a home she had broken into.
According to VicPd at about 8:20 p.m. last night (Thurs)Â officers were called to a car dealership in the 500-block of Francis Avenue for a report a woman was inside trying to steal a car.
During the attempted theft, she drove the vehicle into the dealership’s garage doors, abandoned it there, and fled.
Just over 2 hours later officers were called to a home in the 400-block of Burnside Road East where residents came home to find an unknown woman inside.
Officers found the woman had barricaded herself in the basement, and confirmed she was the suspect they were looking for.
At 2:15 a.m. -- after several hours trying to negotiate with her -- the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team forced their way in using a noise distraction device and a less-lethal ARWEN round.
The woman was arrested and taken to hospital for assessment, then taken back to cells to await a court this morning. She faces recommended charges of break and enter with intent.
