The BC Coroners Service has released the latest report on illicit drug toxicity deaths to the end of September.
There were 127 deaths -- a 15% decrease from the number of deaths in August when 150 people died. But compared to September last year when 60 people lost their lives, it's a 112% increase.
The Coroners Services ays there were about 4.2 illicit drug toxicity deaths per day in September 2020.
70% of those dying this year were aged 30 to 59. Males accounted for 80% of deaths.
Vancouver, Surrey and Victoria have experienced the highest number of drug toxicity deaths this year.
So far this year 1202 people have died -- compared to 761 at this same time last year.
And once again, no deaths have been reported at supervised consumption or drug overdose prevention sites.
