A Victoria Police officer is recovering after being assaulted with a weapon early Sunday morning.
Vic-PD says the officer was responding to an unwanted person call at a residence in the 11-hundred block of Lyall Street in Esquimalt at 4:00 a.m. Sunday morning. The resident had reported a man on the back porch trying to get into the home. When the officer arrived, the suspect was approached at the back door, the officer was attacked and a struggle ensued. The officer received non-life-threatening injuries but was able to restrain the suspect and help take the man into custody.
The officer was transported to hospital and treated for his injuries.
The suspect, an Esquimalt man, has been charged with assaulting an officer and assaulting an officer with a weapon.
