Esquimalt Mayor Barb Desjardins says the owner was not aware a manager had posted a sign that was causing such outrage

A sign outside an Esquimalt nightclub is coming down after many in the community expressed outrage on social media.

The sign declared " Tequila makes her clothes fall off" -- a line from a country song.   But a rape survivor called CFAX 1070 to say how offended she was by the sign, saying it was perpetuating "rape culture". And Esquimalt Mayor Barb Desjardins agrees, calling it inappropriate.

But she says happily the owner of the club has promised it's coming down:

" I contacted the owner of the Carlton Club and he was not aware of that, he had been out of town, had put somebody else in charge.  And he responded immediately, and he apologised and said that he would immediately rectify the situation."

Desjardins says people really need to understand things you say and write can be taken in a different context, and sometimes that can come across as hurtful.  Desjardins says she appreciates that the business owner was so responsive to the situation.
