Oak Bay will be without their Chief of Police for the foreseeable future.
Oak Bay Police chief Andy Brinton is down for the count after being struck by a deer while cycling on Salt Spring Island on Sunday.
"It just came running out and struck him, it happened so fats he had no chance to get out of the way."
Oak Bay Mayor Nils Jensen says Brinton suffered 8 broken ribs and a broken collarbone. The injury also leaves the municipalities police force in the lurch. "when your one employee is hurt and out of commission it does create some issues."
Former RCMP Officer and current Oak Bay deputy Ray Bernoties will take over until Brinton gets back on his feet.
Brinton is expected to make a full recovery.
