The Mayor of Oak Bay hopes a long sought after fix for a sewage problem in the Uplands neighbourhood will be under construction in about 6-months
On Tuesday night, Oak Bay Council approved a $20-million dollar project to build new pipes that separate storm water from sewage. Currently, there's only one pipe for both and that causes sewage overflow into the ocean during heavy rain.
Mayor Nils Jensen says it’s an expensive problem for his municipality, “this is large project for a small community such as Oak Bay, but we've been putting money aside for this. We have $7-million saved and we're hoping to get some grants for it."
The plan needs to be approved by the Environment Ministry before shovels hit the ground.
