It was on November 14th, 1997 that 14 year old Reena Virk was viciously beaten and drowned under the Craigflower bridge by a group of teens. This year marks the 20th Anniversary of the murder, and the groups Artemis Place Society and Learning through Loss will honour Reena's life and memory with a ceremony at the Craigflower Schoolhouse.
The groups say the intention is to honour Reena's life, and inspire renewed commitment to nonviolence. The event will feature speeches from Reena’s father, Manjit Virk, as well as Education Minister Rob Fleming. The event is scheduled for between 12:30 and 2:00 pm on November 14th.
The groups are also asking the public to show commitment to safe and inclusive communities by using the hash tags #iremember #reena and #icommit2nonviolence.
