Saanich Police say 2 teenaged girls were struck by a car in the 42-hundred block of Quadra this morning because they were crossing the bust 4-lane roadway where there was no crosswalk.
It happened in the 42-hundred block near Caen (Cain) Rd at about 8am.
Constable Paul Egli of the Traffic Safety unit told CTV Vancouver Island the girls suffered non-life threatening injuries -- although one of them was hurt more seriously, and is , friends were taken to were jaywalking in terrible conditions:
"Number one charges aren't being considered against the driver at all. She had no way of expecting to see pedestrians at that place and location in the dark, rainy conditions. Good reminder pedestrians, wear bright clothing, use the crosswalks. That's why they're there. And this accident could have been avoided."
One of the girls was more seriously injured -- but is stable and doing well in hospital.
Both northbound and southbound lanes of Quadra were shut down between the Pat Bay Highway overpass and Panorama Drive after the accident..
