Crews working on the new Johnson Street Bridge will conduct a lift test Tuesday, after a snag delayed the test an extra day.
JSB project manager Jonathan Huggett says the test was originally scheduled for Sunday, but the wind delay that pushed installation of the deck span back a day, also pushed the test back until Monday.
Now, because of a snag in work to connect the span to one of the counterweights, crews had to further delay the lift test to Tuesday.
Huggett cautions, unlike the installation of the deck bridge, this event doesn't promise to be a very thrilling spectator sport:
"Don't expect to see it to go up quickly," Huggett explains. "You might not even see any movement over the course of three or four hours."
They'll be raising the bridge degree by degree, inspecting everything each step of the way.
A full marine channel closure remains in effect.
The new bridge will appear complete with these major components in place, but there is still finishing work to be completed before it is ready to open at the end of March.
