Victoria council has voted to approve a liquor license for Herald Street Brew Works, the latest addition to what's becoming known as Victoria's Brewery District. The brewpub will be located at 506 Herald Street.
However, several councilors, voiced their concerns about noise and policing issues.
Charlayne Thorton -Joe says the hours of operation and the occupancy capacity for the proposed pub are a real concern for the Victoria Police Department.
"The police said, 'the proposed capacity of 178 (patrons) is significant, the hours of operations are that of a nightclub--these hours draw late-night street disorder issues well into the early morning hours, and will affect our service levels. This continues to further tax our limited police and resources.”
An amendment was added to the vote, limiting the brew pub's hours to 1 a.m. from 2 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, and 9 a.m. to midnight Sunday to Thursday.
