It's not just women in Hollywood who are experiencing gender-based violence, women journalists are also coming forward with their own sordid stories.
A recent survey conducted by the International Federation of Journalists found nearly half of women journalists polled around the world reported facing some form of sexual harassment. The survey polled 400 women journalists in 50 countries including Canada.
Howard Law, Media Director with Unifor, which is a member of the journalist's federation, says their proximity to the public puts women journalists at increased risk.
"The issues for women journalists is that they are particularly exposed to the public because they have an image, a name, a Twitter address and cyber stalking and online harassment are an enormous problem."
Law says the situation in Canada is no better than what is reflected in the survey, and poins to the strong need for employers to take the issue seriously.
