A Canada-wide warrant has been issued for a Nanaimo man wanted on 7 counts of fraud under $5,000 involving women he met through online dating sites like "Plenty of Fish". 34-year-old Jordan David Shepherd sometimes uses the name Dave Rofter.
Investigators say between February and August last year women in Nanaimo, Ladysmith and New Westminster were befriended by Sheperd. Within days Shepherd would ask the woman to deposit a cheque for him, in their account, for an amount ranging from $1,000 to $1,600. The cheque was written on his purported business account called "On the Rocks Surveying".
After cashing the cheque and giving him the money Shepherd disappeared before the bank could notify the victim the account was non-existent, and they owed the money. Some of the women have taken to social media to warn others. RCMP are asking any victims who have not come forward yet, to do so.
Shepherd is 6'1" tall, weighs about 230 pounds, and has blond hair and blue eyes. He has crown tattoo on his right wrist, and one that says "No Regrets" on his right upper arm.
While he is from Nanaimo, he may be on the Lower Mainland. If you know his wherabouts contact Nanaimo RCMP (250-754-2345) or Crime Stoppers (1-800-222-8477).
