Victoria Fire crews continue to work to extinguish hot spots at the charred remains of the old Plaza Hotel in downtown Victoria.
The blaze broke out early Monday morning and there are still hot spot to deal with.
Meantime the entire façade of the hotel has now been knocked down as it was at risk of falling into the road.
That has enabled some neighboring businesses, and the West sidewalk on Government Street, to reopen.
Wednesday, while working, some of the main floor collapsed into the basement. And because of that, the structural integrity of the east wall has become unstable, and is also being brought down.
Crews will then try to gain access to the basement, and put out hot spots still smoldering down below.
Investigators have not been able to get into the scene yet to find the cause of the fire.
VicPD are also still searching for the missing caretaker, Mike Draeger, and when the scene is clear, the former hotel will be checked.
Meantime West Coast Environmental crews are checking the air quality for asbestos and particulate matter, and the city advises that people should not linger too long around the scene.
The CRD and city are also working with the Coast Guard to make sure there isn't much debris or pollutants pushed out of to sea by the firefighting efforts.
When the scene is safe to enter, investigators will be able to get on site and determine if the fire was suspicious, and whether any accelerants were used to start the fire.
