Westshore RCMP had help from neighbouring police forces and fire departments as they chased a wanted man through the Gorge Waterway.
Around 3pm yesterday, officers spotted a man they recognized as being wanted on several criminal charges out of Kelowna and Vernon.
The man ran away and, eventually, waded away as he entered the Gorge near Christie Point. RCMP say the man made comments about hurting himself as he fled in waist deep water.
After locking down the area, RCMP eventually found the man about 40-minutes later hiding in some bushes and he was arrested without incident.
The 49-year-old will appear in court today.
The massive police operation snarled rush hour traffic.
