A man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant was arrested in Victoria, and a VicPd K9 officer is getting the credit.
In 2013 Rourke Desmanche of London, Ontario, was convicted of manslaughter in the shaking death of his 10-week-old son. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Metro Vancouver Crime Stoppers posted to their Facebook site that Desmanche was given parole with supervision in Chilliwack. A Canada Wide warrant was issued for his arrest after he violated his conditions.
Just after 1am Sunday an alert Victoria Police K9 officer -- Cst. Eric LeQuesne -- was patrolling in the 700-block of Pembroke Street when he recognized Desmanche.
LeQuesne confronted him, and at first, the man made motions that led the officer to believe he was preparing to run. When LeQuesne indicated he would release his police dog, Desmanche cooperated.
Desmanche is being held for a court appearance.
