West Shore RCMP say a man was tasered Monday during a disturbance in View Royal.

It happened around 1:30 a.m.on the pedestrian bridge near the 200 block of Island Hwy, when police say they encountered a man who appeared visibly distraught and agitated.

They say the man was carrying a backpack and told officers he had a syringe full of gasoline.  Police say he had his hand inside the back pack and refused to show officers his hands, making them believe he had a weapon.

When they tried to de-escalate the situation by speaking with the man, they say he refused to cooperate and became more aggressive advancing toward the officers.  That's when officers deployed a Conducted Energy Weapon and police dog on the man. He was taken into custody without any further incident.
