West Shore RCMP have a man in custody following a reported sexual assault on another man Monday night at Thetis Lake in View Royal.
According to RCMP they got a call at 7:20 pm from a man reporting he had been out jogging around the lake when he encountered another male on the trail.
The victim says he moved over to allow the other man to pass, but instead the suspect got closer and grabbed the victim's genitals before walking away.
RCMP spokesperson Cnst. Nancy Saggar says while the victim was in obvious shock he was able to record the suspect on his cell phone as he was walking away.
That recording helped police identify the suspect who has since been arrested for sexual assault.
RCMP says they have received no similar reports of this nature. They are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to call West Shore RCMP at 250-474-2264, or report anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
