The builder behind a controversial mall in Sidney is scrapping the project.
The proposed $35-million shopping centre was to be set on a parcel of land owned by Victoria International Airport.
Just days after the municipal election saw local business owner Cliff McNeil-Smith take the mayor's seat, developer Omicron announced that it's pulling out of plans to build a 100,000-square-foot commercial centre on 10 acres situated on the southwest corner of the Patricia Bay Highway and Beacon Avenue.
The company blames rising costs as well as significant off site infrastructure requirements, including a pedestrian overpass, as reasons the project was nixed.
