Saanich Police Street Crime Unit seized a loaded gun and drugs from a suite in the 700 block of Travino Lane in Royal Oak following a month long investigation.
Following a report of a rise in property crime in the area, investigators gathered information that led them to a residence. Friday morning they moved in, with the help of the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Unit, and arrested 2 men.
During a search officers found a loaded 9mm handgun, thousands of dollars in cash, a ballistic vest, and drugs -- believed to be cocaine and purple fentanyl, a particularly potent form of the drug.
The 34 and 38 year old men are well-known to police and one is being held in custody. As no charges have been sworn in court yet, names have not been released.
Saanich Police are recommending charges including unauthorized possession of a restricted firearm, unsafe storage of a firearm, and offences related to drug trafficking.
