The cancellation of the multi-billion dollar Pacific NorthWest LNG mega project is disappointing, but not surprising according the the Liberal MLA for Skeena.
Ellis Ross, speaking on CFAX, says while Malaysian national energy giant Petronas blamed simple economics, world over supply of liquefied natural gas driving down prices, he believes they are taking the high road in not pointing to the changing political climate in B.C.
Ross says when companies see government leaders talking about urging the federal government to stop or delay projects, it matters.
"B.C has really got to determine what they want to be. Do you want to export resources in the same you've been exporting resources the last 50, 60 years. And do you want to keep some of that revenue and opportunity within B.C. Or do you just want to ship it back east, or do you want to ship it to the states?"
Ross says he worries about his region which is resource based. He says the only industries still providing jobs is aluminum smelter, and forestry, while the rest began leaving 10 to 15 years ago.
