The BC New Democrats claim a leaked document from Island Health outlines cuts to address the BC government's underfunding.
NDP Health Critic, Judy Darcy says Island Health president, Brendan Carr sent a memo to senior staff indicating that the health authority is facing a shortfall of as much as $12 million and is planning to reduce services to patients to make up for the shortfall.
The memo focuses on several areas including the reduction of clinical overtime and reducing workload.
But Darcy says this is unacceptable for Christy Clark's government to further reduce services when patients are already waiting too long for quality health care.
