Langford's Mayor is looking at offering a 10-year tax holiday to draw provincial government offices and tech companiesoffices to the West Shore.
Stew Young says too many people have to make the drive into Victoria every morning - clogging up traffic, and affecting lifestytle. Young says it just makes sense to de-centralize government offices and spread job sites around -- bringing jobs closer to where a lot of people are now living:
"You know you talk about your food production being close to where you live, well what's wrong with having your job close to where you live? That's actually more important to me to build a sustainable community and quality of life style, to do that, and we're not addressing that."
The strategy isn't new for Langford. The municipality approved an amenity fee reduction for developers building downtown last year. Young will put his idea on the next council agenda.
Young was speaking on CFAX 1070 with Pamela McCall.
