Belmont Secondary is putting in a turf field thanks to a generous donation from the City of Langford. The new field will allow athletics programs and various groups to use the field year-round.
The existing Goudy Field artificial turf surface will be relocated to Belmont Secondary School where it will replace the natural grass field that is currently not usable during periods of heavy rain in the winter months.
The City of Langford's donation is valued at almost $400,000.
Langford had previously budgeted for a replacement artificial turf surface for the Goudy Field to bring the facility up to standards set by international sporting bodies for rugby and soccer.
Construction to ready the current field at Belmont has already started. Depending on winter weather, the new turf field will be installed over the winter and ready for use nearing the end of January.
