Close to 10-thousand people will lace up their sneakers for the 30th annual TC 10K.
Race Director Trish Fougner says because it's the 30th anniversary, they have decided to do a retro theme for their entertainment, with an Elvis impersonator and the band Cruel shoes cranking out oldies tunes. There will also be Victoria's own Body Moves leading the warm up routine, and a kid section with a bouncy castle, face painting, and magician.
However, she says it won't be all fun and games, because there are some pretty competitive and impressive runners participating this year.
"We've got Sarah Inglis, who's from Vancouver, she's actually running very well right no, she's had a 32 minute 10 K this year. So that puts our course record in jeopardy, which is pretty exciting. And then we've got a couple Kenyans in the men's division, and some Island athletes as well that are running. Like Craig Odermatt is one of our top masters on Vancouver Island, and a couple others who will be pushing for that lead pack. Both fields, men and women, will be very exciting to watch."
She says the top runners in each age and gender category will win medals, but there will also be bigger bragging rights to try to earn.
"So there's First Canadian Resident, there's Top Vancouver Island Resident. And whoever breaks a course record is also going to receive a cash prize, I believe it's $1200. So there's a lot of incentive for the athletes, and we've set the system up so we're also rewarding some of our local Vancouver Island talent as well."
The race begins at 8am in front of the BC Legislature.
Due to the race, buses servicing Downtown Victoria, James Bay and Fairfield will be on detour from 7am to 1pm.
