A project to replace two seventy year old jetties where vessels dock at CFB Esquimalt is advancing, though at a significantly higher price tag than initially announced.
The Department of National Defence says it has issued a tender estimated at $72-million dollars for demolition of the old "A" jetty and site preparation work.
Future work will include the building of a new "A" jetty, and then the demolition and reconstruction of the "B" jetty.
The federal government announced the project three years ago, estimating the total cost to be between $430-million and $530-million dollars. In today's announcement, though, the DND says it is now budgeting $781-million dollars for the project.
