A medical health officer with Island Health says they will step in if there's a complaint about edible marijuana products.
The statement comes following an inspection of a dispensary in Victoria because of a public complaint.
Island Health medical health officer Paul Hasselback says they have had problems with the concentration of dosage in edibles. “We have got problems associated with the possibility of overdoses and we have unfortunately seen some of that.”
Hasselback says these products need to adhere to the same regulations as restaurants and their food. “Some people think it is not an issue, we have seen those overdoses, and we need to do something about it. And they aren’t being prepared in accordance with existing public health preparation of foods standards.”
He says Island Health will continue to follow up on other pot dispensaries and their pot edibles.
