31-year-old Khushal Rana has died after he was struck by a vehicle on Gorge Road West while on his way to work.
He leaves behind a pregnant wife and a 4 year old son, whose birthday party he had just left when he was struck
The crash happened last Wednesday, October 18. In a statement, Saanich Police confirmed his death. "On the evening of October 21, 2017 the pedestrian who was stuck, Khushal Rana, passed away while in the Intensive Care Unit at the Victoria General Hospital."
Police say "the investigation into the cause of the crash is still ongoing." The 25 year old driver suffered non-life threatening injuries.
A GoFundMe page has been set up by work colleagues. The page was started by Kirn Bawa, the manager of the Sizzling Tandoor restaurant where Rana worked as a chef. She says Rana was on his way to work after celebrating his son's 4th birthday when he was struck. He was in a coma and had one leg amputated before dying Saturday. Rana was the sole breadwinner for his family. The restaurant pledges to care for the family until further notice.
