Saanich police are crediting an alert FedEx driver with helping them make a speedy arrest after a disturbing incident just before 9 am today (Monday). It happened as the driver was delivering a package to a home in the 28-hundred block of Adelaide Avenue.
The driver delivered a package to the homeowner, a 40 year old woman who was home with her baby. And when she went inside to call her husband about the delivery an unknown man pushed past, grabbed the package and began running through the house.
When the woman followed the man he picked up a potted plant and struck her in the head several times. The man then fled. As the woman called 9-1-1, the FedEx driver followed the suspect and also called police. Saanich police arrived on scene quickly and arrested the suspect -- a 33 year old Victoria man, who is known to them.
Police will be recommending charges of, assault with a weapon and being unlawfully in a dwelling house.
The homeowner was taken to the hospital with nonlife threatening injuries.
