Campers at Regina Park continue to defy notices to cease occupying the area, as well as the highway right-of-way along Highway 1 near Uptown.
Both the District of Saanich and the provincial government have issued notices to vacate -- with the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure concerned about the safety of campers occupying the right-of-way, as well as travellers using the highway.
According to an emailed statement from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, the Province continues is working in coordination with the District of Saanich, and is considering all options at this time. As Saanich owns the majority of the site the Province is following the District's lead.
The ministry says enforcement may take place when, and if, an injunction order is granted by the courts. A hearing is scheduled for Monday, August 13th.
The District of Saanich is seeking to have the campers removed because of concerns over fire risk and negative impacts on the nearby neighbourhood.
