The Western Hockey League has announced an indefinite suspension for a Victoria Royals player.
Kody McDonald is being penalized for receiving a match penalty, which occurred during Victoria's 6-3 loss to Kamloops last night (Wed).
McDonald got a 5-minute major and a game misconduct at the 7:58 mark of the 3rd period after swinging his stick from the Royals bench into the Blazers bench, hitting a trainer and possibly a player, as well.
It was a tie game at that point in the third-period, but Kamloops would score twice during McDonald's five minute penaltly on their way to a 6-3 win.
Commissioner Ron Robison says the WHL takes incidents of this nature very seriously, calling actions of this kind "unacceptable."
There will be no further comment until the WHL Director of Player Safety completes a full review of the incident.
It was Game 4 of the best-of-seven first-round series between the Royals and Blazers. The Royals host Kamloops on Saturday night.
