At midnight tonight there is a big move on the Malahat, Belton Brothers structural Movers will be transporting a house from Langford to Chemainus. It will be done between 12-4am over the next two evenings to minimize traffic delays.
Corey Belton, the House Moving Foreman, says there will be some brief closures near Goldstream Park. "We do have to cross over in a few spots and we stop traffic in goldstream, park and we cross over at Ice Cream Mountain and come down the southbound lanes going north."
Belton says they will be stopping at Goldstream park at 4am, and continuing the move early Friday morning and continue to Chemainus. The reason for the two night move is they can only work for 5 hours at a time, or 100km travelled whichever comes first.
Corey continues they are also having to contend with paving. The company will have spotters and pilot cars involved and working with the Dept of Transportation and the RCMP who will let traffic by whenever possible. Crews are asking for your patience as they will have to weave the house around signs and hydro poles.
