The union representing BC Transit HandyDART operators and staff in Greater Victoria have reached a tentative agreement to avert a strike Thursday.
Details of the deal reached with BC Transit's contracted service provider First Canada are not being released until the membership is informed -- but Unifor Local 333 President Ben Williams says the bargaining committee is happy with the terms:
" That's correct. The bargaining is unanimously recommending that the members accept the tentative agreement and we will be have a ratification vote on Monday January 29th. "
One of the sticking points had been the company's refusal to deem some staff working fulltime hours as fulltime employees with benefits.
Williams says the union is very pleased to avoid the disruption job action would have caused for HandyDART riders who depend on the service.
