A Victoria man is upset his 77 year old father has been on a gurney in a hospital hallway for over five days -- being treated for significant medical issues.
Darren Laur says retired Navy veteran was initially put in a room, but was soon moved into the hallway at Victoria General Hospital.
"He was put into a room for a couple of hours and then he was immediately moved out into a hallway. And he's been there for five days. Last week he was on one floor, and this week he's been moved to a second floor -- but he's still on a gurney being treated in a hallway."
Laur says his father is being robbed of his privacyand dignity -- and may have to stay in hospital into next week.
He calls the situation shameful, and a disrespectful way to treat an a senior and military veteran.
Laur says hospital staff are doing what they can, but adds the federal and provincial governments need to better fund hospitals, especially as the population ages.
