Swimmers can once again take a dip in Beaver Lake.
The Capiratl Regional District and Island Health have lifted the Blue-Green Algae Alert, issued at Beaver Lake on August 9th, after samples collected from the beach showed the toxin levels were below the detection limit.
The absence of the blue-green scum on the water, along with the recent test results, are good indicators that the algae bloom is over.
Lake users are still being warned to watch in case a blue-green sheen appears on the water's surface, as it could mean another bloom of the algae that can cause illnesses in humans, including headaches and stomach pains, and can potentially cause lethal liver damage to dogs.
