Saanch Police say a shooting is what lead to the investigation surrounding the Galloping Goose Trail.
"The Saanich Police Major Crime Unit are currently investigating a male who presented himself to hospital with a gunshot wound. The injuries right now appear to be non-life threatening," said Inspector Damian Kowalewich.
The investigation led police to the stretch of the Galloping Goose between McKenzie Avenue and Grange Road, which was closed from Monday evening until midday Tuesday. The police canine unit was brought in to help search the area. But Inspector Kowalewich says they are not yet able to disclose whether that's where the shooting happened, "we are very early in determining the exact circumstances of this whole scenario right now so it is too early to confirm that."
"At this point we do not believe that this was radom in nature and we have no reason to believe there is an ongoing threat to the public," said Inspector Kowalewich.
The Galloping Goose Trail itself has reopened, but the investigation continues.
