The city of Victoria and residents of Fisherman's wharf could be heading for a fight over the proposed construction of a new bridge in Fisherman's wharf.
The proposed 1.8 million dollar bridge over Heron Cove as part of an expansion of the David Foster walkway in Fisherman's wharf has some residents up in arms. Melanie Sibbitt told CTV Vancouver Island she's not a fan. “ I moved here for the views and the peaceful and I don’t want more people coming to the area.”
Some residents say they are concerned for wildlife in the area but Fraser work with the City says they are taking every precaution. “We are working with all the departments to ensure we comply with all of the regulations to ensure wildlife is taken care of construction is done properly.”
Not everyone is opposed to the development plan Ramesh Espinoza thinks more tourists and more people will be good for his business, “people decide where they live, if they choose to live in a busy area that’s their choice.”
The city has yet to give the project the green light -- but construction could begin in the next 8 months.
