BC Hydro was inundated with reports of power outages throughout the Lower Mainland and Southern Vancouver Island Tuesday morning.
Spokesman Ted Olynyk says this area hasn't been affected as badly as Vancouver, but at one point there were about 77-hundred people without power on the southern island:
"Well this is certainly the kick off to storm season on the south coast. We have a large number of outages on the lower mainland area, and Vancouver Island was hit with this storm as well. We
know another one's on its way. It's really a reminder that we are in storm season now, so be prepared for outages. Outages can happen over the next few months."
Olynyk says it's a good time to check your emergency kit and ensure you have what you need to get through any long outage. Most of the issues in Greater Victoria are being blamed on weather-related equipment failures.
