The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) is looking into a police incident on Lochside Drive in North Saanich on Friday night.
In a release, the II0 confirmed the investigation in which a vehicle crashed during an unconfirmed police chase.
“"At this point we are investigating to determine if there is a connection and if the male's injuries meet the established definition of serious harm."
Tieg Clark, Lieutenant with the North Saanich Fire Department says they responded to a vehicle hitting a water pump station about 200 meters south of the McTavish Pat Bay interchange, bursting into flames at around 6:30 p.m.
“When we got there the car was in flames and the lone occupant of the vehicle was out of the car,” said Clark who couldn’t confirm the extent of the injuries.
There were unconfirmed reports that the vehicle was stolen from a gas station on West Saanich road before becoming part of a police pursuit.
