An Esquimalt resident and business owner is trying to rally opposition to quick-build bike lanes down Esquimalt Road.
Esquimalt’s Active Transportation Network Plan is already underway with bike lanes recently constructed along Tillicum and Lampson. A future phase calls for the same lanes along Esquimalt Road.
Carly Youlton owns a business called Refined Health along the route and her on-street parking would be lost.
"It's going to be right in front of my business at this point," says Youlton. "Which means that the customers, the patients, anyone who visits the small businesses here... is going to be affected by [the lack of] business access."
"So that's what finally pushed me to be vocal about it."
Youlton has launched several online petitions on the website change.org. They call for various measures including "a discontinuation of all current activity related to installation of protected bike lanes."
