An effort to raise funds to help those affected by a tragic fire last weekend has raised just over $5-thousand so far.
The Esquimalt Church of the Nazarene has been serving as a refuge and emergency response centre for residents of the Lindsay Place apartment complex at 843 Craigflower Road.
They established a GoFundMe page on Monday, just 1 day after a woman died on her 4th floor balcony as distraught residents trying to save her looked on.
Two top floor units suffered heavy smoke and fire damage, while others in the vicinity have been damaged by smoke and water.
Pastor Barry Goodwin says many will need help getting back on their feet:
" And there were alot of people that had mentioned they had no insiurance, what am I going to do. That GoFund would be wonderful, whatever they could give towards that."
The church has set a goal of raising $50,000 to assist the residents -- which would be about $2,000 per family.
