Jack Eldridge Memorial Fund will help ensure continued protection of Abkhazi Garden

A longtime supporter of The Land Conservancy (TLC) and volunteer with the Abkhazi Garden is being honoured with a $100-thousand endowment fund created from his bequest to the organization.

Jack Eldridge passed away in October at age 85.  He was a TLC member for almost 2 decades, and spent much of his time volunteering at the Trusts' many sites.  But the Abkhazi Garden was one of his particular passions.

TLC Executive Director Cathy Armstrong says the Jack Eldridge Memorial Fund for Abkhazi Garden will help ensure the garden is protected for the community's enjoyment.

Abkhazi Garden is located in the 16-hundred block Fairfield Road, and was created over a 40 year period by Prince and Princess Abkhazi  at their heritage home.  17 years ago the Land Conservancy bought the property to save it from becoming a townhouse development.

TLC Executive Director Cathy Armstrong says the Jack Eldridge Memorial Fund for Abkhazi Garden will help ensure the garden is protected for the community's enjoyment as Jack wished.

The garden is open throughout the spring and summer, with admission by donation. The season kicks off this Saturday, April 1 with a community open house 11 am to 5 pm.
