In a first of its kind drone delivery trials in Canada, a drone carrying medication flew 6 km in 11 minutes from London Drugs in Duncan to the Country Grocer on Salt Spring Island
London Drugs, Canada Post and InDro Robotics partnered in the test on Monday, August 19.
Canada Post was selected along with InDro Robotics in 2018 to participate in Transport Canada's Beyond Visual Line-of-Sight (BVLOS) Drone Trials.
The proposal focused on testing BVLOS capabilities over open water and partnering to test the delivery of prescription medications to remote areas.
Chris Chiew, general manager of Pharmacy for London Drugs says the ability to provide medications to patients in remote areas is a significant success.
"In the very near future we will be able to provide delivery of prescription medications to areas not accessible by vehicle."
