It's now been 11 days after an 82 year old Oak Bay senior disappeared -- but there are still no signs of her.
Cowichan Search and Rescue has conducted a ground and air search in and around the Cowichan Valley where there have been unconfirmed sightings of Gladys Barman.
Her son Neil spent time up there yesterday driving Stoney Hill Rd, where there was a promising sighting, but found nothing.
He says while he's concerned about how his mother is doing in the heat -- but holds out hope because his mother is in good shape physically:
" But again, she's pretty tough, she's in good shape. And she is the kind of person who may have picked up a couple of cases of bottled water, left them in her trunk because she didn't feel like bringing them in the house. They could be there along with granola bars. They could be there, who knows? But I'm still hopeful because she's not frail."
Her son Neil is discounting suggestions of foul play:
" There have been no indications of that in terms of the banking, and no evidence otherwise. If anything I'm think it might be car accident type of thing, off the road, where the volunteers just haven't been able to see her. Search and rescue hasn't been able to see of course a green car under foliage in the shade. But I still think it's just a matter of time before she turns up. She may be hurt at this point though, that's what I'm worried about."
Barman asks everyone on Vancouver Island to watch out for an elderly woman driving a 2002 dark green Honda Accord sedan, BC license 940 RGA. If you think you've seen her call police immediately.
