Earthquake strikes off the coast of Vancouver Island

No tsunami warnings were issued for the West Coast of the Island.

Late Friday evening an earth quake struck about 270km of the coast of Tofino.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) detected a magnitude 4.7 earthquake that occurred off the coast of Vancouver Island at 11:33pm.

This was the second earthquake to happen in BC in as many days. On Thursday a 4.2 magnitude quake hit 22km from Fort St. John that is being blamed on fracking.

Also on Friday there were back to back earthquakes that hit Anchorage Alaska, a 7.0 and 5.7 causing damage to roads and buildings. No deaths or injuries were reported.
