West Shore RCMP fined a driver for breaking the new rules regarding cannabis in cars. The driver wasn't smoking it, but was transporting it improperly.
Officers pulled over a vehicle Wednesday afternoon on Jacklin Rd at Sooke Rd for a traffic violation.
After noticing the strong odour of cannabis they found 23 grams of in a ziplock bag on the front passenger seat.
Under the law cannabis must be sealed in its original Federal packaging -- and if open, it can't be accessible to the driver or passengers.
West Shore RCMP say the safest place to put it is in your trunk out of reach, similar to the laws governing open liquor in a car.
The cannabis was seized, and the driver issued a $230 fine.
And that's not all, the driver got a warning for not being able to produce their drivers license.
